Austin Theory and Grayson Waller won the tag team championship at WrestleMania 40.
Since winning the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships at WrestleMania 40 in Philadelphia, Austin Theory and Grayson Waller have become top targets in the tag team division. A-Town Down Under has swiftly risen to the top, creating several enemies along the way. Among the challengers, one pair sticks out: Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano, popularly known as #DIY.
Austin Theory and Grayson Waller’s ascent to the top has been rapid. Their brilliance and persistence have gained their titles, but they have also sparked enormous resentment. Their history with Johnny Gargano, which dates back to their time on the developing brand, has exacerbated the enmity. Gargano, who has had heated feuds with both guys, particularly Waller, is familiar with their strategies.
DIY are going to be the next challengers for the WWE Tag Team Champions
On SmackDown LowDown, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano made their intentions clear: they are coming for the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championships. Ciampa emphasized their new, more aggressive approach on SmackDown. “I wouldn’t call it a roll, right?
Because it’s one match, but the difference is that on Monday Night RAW, our approach was to wait, and we played the long game. That’s not the approach here on SmackDown. We’re here to take what we want. And what we want is Grayson Waller, Austin Theory, and those tag team titles,” said Ciampa.
Gargano added, “The agenda is #DIY Tag Team Gold 2024, no matter who steps in our way. Look, I’ve a long history with both Austin Theory and Grayson Waller. That is the endgame.”
A-Town Down Under responds
Grayson Waller, never one to back down from a dispute, answered vehemently. His experience with Gargano, particularly their unsanctioned bout at Stand & Deliver 2023, has left lasting wounds. Waller spoke bluntly about Solo Wrestling. “I’m going to make sure that the two of you never hold these championships. Johnny, I’ve never forgotten everything we went through (…) I truly never want you to succeed in this business. And, it is my goal, right here on SmackDown, to make sure that never happens,” said Waller.
