The atmosphere was explosive when Gunther defended his WWE World Heavyweight Championship against Randy Orton at the WWE Bash in Berlin 2024. The bout started with both guys circling the ring, testing each other with a collar-and-elbow tie-up.
Following a clean break in the corner, they swapped headlocks and head scissors to figure out each otherâs strategies. Gunther attempted a double wristlock, but Orton located the ropes and forced the Ring General to break clean.
Orton was able to force Gunther into the corner and originally broke cleanly, but Guntherâs aggressive approach quickly took over with a flurry of uppercuts that dropped Randy down.
Orton battled back and carried the fight outside, where he repeatedly slammed the In-Ring General into the steel stairs and executed three back suplexes on the announce desk, targeting In-Ring Generalâs back.
Back in the ring, Gunther attempted to lock in the Gojira Clutch, but Orton countered with shoulder armbreakers and a judo throw that targeted the championâs arm.
Despite his arm injuries, Gunther replied with stiff lariats while plainly in agony. Orton delivered a snap scoop power slam but was unable to hold the champion down for the count.
As the action heated up, Orton tried his famous hanging DDT, but In-Ring General stopped it and executed an inverted Hot Shot. They fought for position on the top rope, and Orton hit with a superplex, knocking both men down.
After several exchanges, Orton ultimately landed the hanging DDT. He was ready for the RKO, but Gunther countered with a German suplex and a diving splash, just missing the victory.
Gunther tried the Tenryu Powerbomb, but his wounded arm failed him. Randy landed an unexpected RKO, but In-Ring General was kicked out. The action spilled outside again, with Orton preparing for a devastating back suplex off the steel stairs into the announce table, which elicited a huge cheer from the Berlin audience.
Back in the ring, Orton attempted another RKO, but GUNTHER stopped it and locked in the Gojira Clutch. Randy struggled furiously, driving In-Ring General into the turnbuckles, but the Ring General refused to release go. Orton attempted to power out but ultimately surrendered to the grip.
Gunther won after a referee stoppage with the Gojira Clutch to retain the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. Following the bout, In-Ring General celebrated his hard-fought triumph by resecuring the title belt. Randy Orton shook hands with the champion as a sign of respect.
