Here are five of the top stars who achieved major success in WWE & Olympics
WWE is the official destination of some of the best professional wrestlers all around the world. Despite pro-wrestlers, the company has witnessed a number of stars, who made their way into WWE across various streams.
We have witnessed some MMA fighters, Celebrities, Social Media Influencers, Singers, Boxers, Olympians, Powerlifters and many others step foot into WWE. One such thing is the Olympians stepping into the WWE ring and achieving major success. Here are five of the top WWE Superstars who participated in the Olympics.
5. Gable Steveson
Gable Steveson is one of the greatest Olympians to step foot in WWE. Steveson participated in the 2020 Olympics in the Freestyle Wrestling Super Heavyweight division and won Gold. With this, he became the first freestyle wrestler to win a gold medal for America and the youngest to win the gold medal across the world. Following that Steveson got signed to WWE to prepare for his pro-wrestling career and wrestled a few matches before being released by the company. Despite a monumental achievement in Olympic wrestling, his poor pro-wrestling career made him listed fifth on our list.
4. Chad Gable
Chad Gable is one of the top Olympians to step foot in WWE and is having a great run with the company. Gable is an Amateur Wrestler, who participated in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London at the Greco-Roman Style 84 kg. He won in the qualification round but got eliminated in the next round. Following that he signed a contract with WWE and prepared for his pro-wrestling career. He is a four-time champion in WWE and was a major tag team wrestler of the company, currently switched as a singles wrestler.
3. Mark Henry
Mark Henry is also an Olympian who achieved major success in WWE. Mark Henry at the age of 19 qualified for the weightlifting competition at the 1992 Summer Olympics for the Super Heavyweight division and finished tenth, however, he got the attention of several veterans.
He again qualified for the 1996 Olympics and got a major spotlight. Henry became the Captain of the Olympic Weightlifting team, however, due to a back injury he finished the competition in a disappointing 14th place. He was contacted by Vince McMahon and made his way into WWE. Henry is a three-time champion and a Hall of Famer in WWE.
2. Ronda Rousey
Ronda Rousey is one of the greatest Olympians to step foot in WWE and achieved major success in both. Rousey is a Judoka, who qualified for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. She is the youngest Judoka (17) to qualify for the 2004 Olympic Games, however lost in the first round.
In the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, she participated in the 70 kg division and won a Bronze medal, with this she became the first American woman to win a bronze medal in Judo. Rousey then switched her career to MMA and then to professional wrestling making her way to WWE in 2018 and working until 2023, where she is a five-time champion.
1. Kurt Angle
Kurt Angle is one of the top personalities who achieved major success in both WWE and the Olympics. In 1995, Angle began his Olympic training after winning the gold medal at FILA Wrestling World Championship. In 1996, he participated in the Olympics trials despite suffering from a severe neck injury and got selected to the Olympics.
At the 1996 Olympics, Kurt Angle won the Gold Medal in the Amateur Wrestling Heavyweight division with a broken neck. He then switched his career from amateur to professional wrestling and made his way into WWE in 1998. Angle achieved major success in WWE and other pro wrestling promotions. He is an eight-time champion, fifth Grand Slam Champion and the Hall of Famer of the company. All these make him the best Olympian to step foot in WWE.
