There has been speculation that BCCI has approached Virender Sehwag for Chief Selector's post.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is in search of a new chief selector. Some media reports claimed that former Indian opener Virender Sehwag was approached for the job but he didn't apply because of the low pay scale being offered. Well, now he has ended all the speculation that he was being asked to apply for any position on the Indian board.

The BCCI is currently working with an interim chief selector Shiv Sunder Das since February. Chetan Sharma was sacked after a sting operation by a news agency in which he revealed some confidential information about the players and the team. Since then, the Indian board has been working with Shiv Sundar Das, who has been assisted by Subroto Banerjee (Central), S Sharath (South) and Salil Ankola (West).

"No such offer was made"- Virender Sehwag when asked about BCCI's Chief Selector option

The Indian board has begun the search for its new selector committee head and has opened the applications. As per some reports, there was a big name that made the cut and ticked all the boxes for the eligibility criteria for the post. But it was learned that Virender Sehwag himself denied applying for the vacant post when asked by the BCCI. Finally, the former opener has ended all the ongoing rumors.

As per the eligibility criteria, the applicant must have played seven Tests or 10 ODIs, or a minimum of 30 first-class games since retiring at least five years ago. There were some other big names, like current LSG mentor Gautam Gambhir, former all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, and off-spinner Harbhajan Singh. But all of them retired within the span of five years.

Thus, a PTI report confirmed that Virender Sehwag was the one who was approached. But in an interaction with the Times of India, when asked about the same thing, the former opener ended all the rumors by saying, "No." Earlier, a BCCI source told PTI that Sehwag is unlikely to apply because of the lesser pay scale and was even asked to apply for India's coach. The source told, "During CoA's time, Viru was asked to apply for head coach's job and then it went to Anil Kumble. It is unlikely he will apply himself and also the pay package isn't something that will be financially viable for someone of his stature."
