Petr Kratky highlighted Mumbai City’s positives from the Kerala Blasters game.

As Mumbai City FC approach the final fixture of their football campaign this year against Chennaiyin FC, they strive to rebound from a recent setback against Kerala Blasters. The team faces a formidable challenge compounded by the absence of key players due to red cards and injuries, adding complexity to their strategic approach.

Positioned fifth in the ISL table with 19 points, Mumbai City FC are eager to make a statement and improve their standing. The adversity has become a central theme for the Islanders, who are determined to showcase resilience and determination on the field.

Let’s take a look at what head coach Petr Kratky and winger Lallianzuala Chhangte had to say ahead of the clash:

Injury Concerns

Rostyn Griffiths and Tiri were substituted during the last away game against Kerala Blasters, where the team suffered a 2-0 defeat. When questioned about the fitness of the duo and whether they are available to feature in the upcoming match against Chennaiyin, Kratky responded, “They look very good. Our medical team is really really good. They are doing a fantastic job. We are waiting for a couple of more scans, but everyone looks very good.”

Positives against Kerala Blasters

The team was outclassed by Kerala Blasters away from home, but the coach emphasised the positives from the game. He said, “First of all is the attitude, and the hard work, and the never-give-up attitude. This is the behaviour and standards that we want, regardless who we play against.”

“The boys tick the boxes on all that. They were trying from the first minute to the last minute. The circumstances went in a way we didn’t expect, early injury, goal, but the boys did well on that part of the behaviour, and then tactically there were also good things. We are very close,” he added.

Any Plans for Crivellaro?

Rafael Crivellaro, the talisman for Chennaiyin FC, is leading the charts for most assists this season. When asked if Mumbai City FC have devised any special plans to counter him, Petr Kratky addressed the challenge.

He stated, “We look at Chennaiyin FC’s individual players or as a team whole tactically and physically and technically, so we are fully aware of their quality. But, we need to look at ourselves and do our things very well and limit the opposition as much as we can.”

The Chennaiyin Challenge

Chennaiyin FC, lurking just below Mumbai City FC in the ISL 2023-24 table, crave vengeance after Owen Coyle‘s side suffered a setback against Punjab. With a determination to rise, Petr Kratky reflected on the challenges the Islanders will face against them.

“Chennaiyin is a very interesting team. Obviously with some history. They are very hard to beat also. We have to respect, we can’t think it will be an easy game. There is no easy game. We know what their qualities are, but we also know where we can expose them and how, and now it’s about execution.”

Lallianzuala Chhangte, who is a former Chennaiyin FC player added, “Chennaiyin FC are a very good team. I think they are a much better team than last few years. They have got a great bunch of players. On top of that, they have got a good coach as well. They were struggling initially but are in the right momentum now. But, we are focusing on ourselves.”
