FIFA 20 and PES 2020 - Everything you need to know
Written by: Waseem Zaidi
The two giants in the world of sports gaming are introducing new titles in their series of highly popular games.
When it comes to sports games, there is no competitor that comes close to football games such as the franchises of FIFA and Pro Evolution Soccer, developed by Electronic Arts and Konami respectively. It is that time again when these two juggernauts of the sports games industry release their annual new installments in the long running games series, much to the excitement of their loyal massive fanbases.
EA are introducing FIFA 20 while Konami are soon releasing eFootball: PES 2020. While the former is the unchallenged trailblazer, the latter is the nearest and probably the sole challenger to FIFA’s dominance over the football games scene. These games are so realistic, that they are beginning to be termed as football simulators.
Therefore, we bring you everything from release dates, to system requirements on the PC, new game features and more ahead of the release of both the games in question.
EA have shown incredible ambition with their latest FIFA release if the early signs are any indication. After mixed reviews to their last two installments in FIFA 18 and FIFA 19, the developers have decided to up the ante. The amount of new content being introduced is massive to say the least. However, losing exclusive rights to PES regarding Juventus FC have dampened the spirits.
A lot! Mildly speaking, EA are pulling out all the cards and have taken the feedback from the fans into serious consideration. With the usual squad updates and improvements to the player likenesses, FIFA 20 will have “Volta Football” mode, which is a refreshing take on street football.
Fans had expressed their demand for FIFA Street to be re-introduced, which was a massively popular spin-off game series back in the early 2000s and EA seems to have caught on that desire of it’s fans. “Volta Football” will have modes such as 3v3 Rush (no goalkeeper), 4v4, 4v4 Rush, 5v5 and professional futsal matches in some of the most well renowned indoor and outdoor stadiums. Moreover, an added campaign mode, online leagues and ability to customise characters make it enough to be a stand alone game in itself.
Other gameplay features such as smoother manual defending, polished timed finishing mechanics, and new customisable settings in Pro Clubs make FIFA 20 an exciting product. The immensely popular FUT mode will also changes along with the Career Mode. Not to forget, the game will also have UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League after securing their licenses last year.
There are three variants that will be released and each has different cover stars gracing it. The Standard Edition has Eden Hazard, who recently moved to Real Madrid. The Champions Edition features the Liverpool center-back, Virgil van Dijk. Lastly, the Ultimate Edition will have the legendary Frenchman, Zinedine Zidane on the cover.
As announced by the developing company, the game is set for a September 27, 2019 release, with a demo soon to be introduced around the corner. The platforms that the game will be released are PC, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. If one has EA Access subscription, then the game will be available to play a week earlier from September 19 on the streaming service.

eFOOTBALL : PES 2020
It is no easy feat to compete against a gargantuan product like FIFA franchise when it comes to sports games, but Konami’s PES has held its own and has developed a niche following over the years. A game that has always reaped praises for it’s realistic graphics and gameplay, PES 2020 is also introducing a bunch of new content for the fanbase and has secured a surprise exclusive deal with Juventus FC alongwith securing image rights with Manchester United, Old Trafford stadium and FC Barcelona.

First and foremost, the name change suggests the game is called “eFootball : PES 2020”. The reason behind this has been justified as an attempt to focus more towards esports aspect of the game.
Konami has struggled with the licensing issues over the years, but it has not affected its ability to include new content to PES games. There is an updated roster of teams and players and stadiums. There are various graphic improvements to the overall environment of the game, the players and dynamic weather conditions.
New revamped Finesse Dribbling alongwith new tricks are being introduced. Moreover, improved ball physics, trick tap and player specific skills traits are sure to keep the users immersed and experience a realistic playing experience.
Add to that, PES 2020 is bringing back Master League but with a fresh take and lots of new features to it’s long-time running mode which is equivalent to FIFA’s Career mode. It will feature our very own player with a narrative based storyline and dialogues. There is however, no signs of inclusion of female football teams in the game.
After nine years, the cover of the game will be graced by none other than, FC Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, replacing Phillipe Coutinho from last year. There are two variants, Standard Edition and the Legend Edition which will feature Ronaldinho on the cover.
eFootball: PES 2020 is slated to release on September 10 on platforms such as PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. That means yet again, Konami are releasing their game ahead of FIFA 20’s release. The demo is already out and has received mixed feedback as of yet.
