Shooting will remain as the medal contending event for India on Wednesday.

It was a historic day in Indian sports on Day 4 of Paris Olympics 2024 as Manu Bhaker became the first Indian athlete since indepedence to win multiple medals in a single edition of the Olympics. After winning a bronze in the 10m Air Pistol individual event, she doubled it up with another bronze in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team along with Sarabjot Singh at Paris Olympics 2024.

The Indian men’s hockey team beat Ireland 2-0 to for a vital win before tough games against Belgium and Australia. Captain Harmanpreet Singh continued his goal scoring spree as he has now scored in all three matches at Paris Olympics 2024.

There were few results that didn’t go India’s way at Paris Olympics 2024 as Amit Panghal was knocked out in round of 16 against Patrick Chinyemba. Panghal lost 1-4 through unanimous decision of the judges. It was a tough day for Balraj Panwar as he failed to qualify for the medal round in Rowing. Panwar finished fifth in the quarterfinals and only the top three could qualify for the semifinals.

Over to Badminton, Ashwini Ponappa and Tanisha Crasto in women’s doubles suffered their third defeat to end their Paris Olympics 2024 campaign without a win. Meanwhile in men’s doubles Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy qualified for the quarterfinals by remaining unbeaten.

Over to archery, Bhajan Kaur recorded a thumping 6-0 win in 1/16 elimination round. But Ankita Bhakat was knocked out in the 1/32 elimination round with a score of 4-6. It was a nail-biting finish in the men’s side as Dhiraj Bommadevara started the 1/32 elimination round with a 7-1 resounding win. But he came close to clinching the match in the 1/16 round as he lost 5-6 in a shootout.

All said and done, there is still hope for the coming days in multiple sporting disciplines. Let’s look at the medal contenders for India on Day 5 at Paris Olympics 2024.

India’s medal contenders on Day 5 of Paris Olympics 2024

Shooting – Women’s Trap Individual – Rajeshwari Kumar & Shreyasi Singh (12:30 PM)

The first day of the Women’s Trap Individual event got underway on Tuesday with Rajeshwari Kumari and Shreyasi Singh in the fray. With 25 shots in each round, the first day saw three rounds of shooting with both shooters scoring 68. Rajeshwari at 21st position and Shreyasi at 22nd position are in the bottom half of the standings.

With 50 shots to go, both Indians would want to score in all those shots to stand a chance to play in the finals later in the day at 7 PM IST. Never say never in sports should be the attitude as things could change on a given day.

A classic example is in the line-up as the World Record holder and the reigning Olympic Champion Zuzana Rehak Stefecekova is behind the Indian duo at the 24th place. So, both the female shooters should try to get 50/50 and leave the rest for the best.
