Ricochet was crowned the first-ever WWE Speed Champion

WWE Speed is a high-paced match, where the matches are held with a three-minutes time limit, where every second matters. The match brings fresh 7 dynamic twists to the classic in-ring competition, where some of the fastest and toughest WWE Superstars from all three brands (Raw, SmackDown & NXT) compete against the time.

The matches usually last between 3 to 5 minutes time limit and the stars need to push their limit to finish their opponents as soon as possible. The WWE Superstars will fight for the ultimate prize to become the WWE Speed Champion. The exclusive taped matches will be streamed every Wednesday at 9.30 PM IST in India on WWE’s official X page.

WWE started hosting the Season 1 of WWE Speed since April 3, 2024 and has successfully held a total of seven episodes. Season 1 featured the first WWE Speed Tournament to crown the first WWE Speed Champion, Ricochet. As seven episodes of the Season have passed, we will review WWE Speed Season 2 as whether it was a success or a failure.

WWE Speed promotions

WWE Speed was first announced by Michael Cole at the WrestleMania XL Press Conference, which reached a wide range of audience and created curiosity among fans. WWE followed it with a hype video package with Corey Graves explaining the rules and what Speed is all about along with the telecast details, which is perfectly delivered. Considering the promotion part, Speed was a huge success.

WWE Speed Tournament

WWE announced a Speed Tournament to crown its first WWE Speed Champion, by announcing some of the highly athletic, powerful and agile wrestlers irrespective of their brands, which created anticipation. Superstars including Ricochet, Dragon Lee, Axiom, Bronson Reed, Cedric Alexander, Johnny Gargano and Angel were part of the tournament and the matches were quick enough like a highlight reel. The tournament was the right way to crown the inaugural champion and it was executed right.

Tapings

WWE has been taping the Speed matches before Monday Night Raw and Friday Night SmackDown which is later released on Wednesday every week.

However the tape delay leaks the result prior to the programming, causing less interest among fans. The most awaited tournament final got leaked during season 1 of WWE Speed on the internet and carried no anticipation when officially broadcasted. Considering the tapings and leaked footage, the Speed Season 1 failed.

WWE Speed Championship

The WWE Speed Championship is exclusive for X/Twitter, however the champion is not recognized in the Television. The Champion, Ricochet has not been seen with the Speed Championship since then on WWE TV. Considering the recognition it gained overall, the Speed Season 1 failed.
