James Maddison ruled out until end of year with ankle injury

James Maddison was omitted from England squad ahead of November matches
James Maddison of Tottenham was dropped from the England team due to an injury. Due to an injury to his ankle, the 26-year-old had to leave the game throughout the first half of Spurs’ 4-1 Premier League loss to Chelsea on Monday.
His club has now stated that he will not be able to play in England’s Euro 2024 qualifiers against North Macedonia on Monday and Malta at home on Friday.
In a statement, Spurs indicated that the player would continue his recovery at their training facility, overseen by club physicians. Maddison was named in Gareth Southgate’s original 25-man squad on Thursday. Southgate had expressed optimism about the player’s eligibility.
The head coach of England had expressed his “pretty confident” that Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, and Maddison would be ready.

England qualified for the Euros in Germany this summer with a 2-1 victory against Italy at Wembley last month in their final qualifier. However, they have not yet assured a spot among the top six seeds. On Saturday, Wolves and Tottenham will meet at midday.
However, the possibility of losing Maddison—who has grown to be such an important team member—will cause great stress behind closed doors.
Over the past three days, Maddison has had several tests to determine the severity of the injury to his ankle.
Gareth Southgate, coach of England, stated the following on Thursday:
‘He seems positive. There’s clearly an element of doubt. But I think at the time of the decision (of his first half substitution versus Chelsea), they had just gone to 10, maybe the manager was thinking, ‘I’ve got a player who might have a knock and we’ve only got 10 players anyway.’
The midfielder will not feature in the Three Lions’ UEFA EURO 2024 qualifiers against Malta and North Macedonia, and will remain at Hotspur Way for rehabilitation with the Club’s medical staff.’
Micky van de Ven suffers hamstring injury
James Maddison’s teammate Micky van de Ven is also ruled out for 2023. The Dutch centre-back suffered a hamstring injury in the same match. Postecoglou said, “Micky has a hamstring injury which we knew was fairly significant, a couple of months for him.”
