The 23rd Commonwealth Games is taking place in Glasgow, Scotland

Indian athletes have had a fruitful outing in the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2026. 39 athletes and para-athletes from the country have claimed medals at the multisport tournament, with India looking to challenge the established heavyweights for a higher place in the standings.

Weightlifting has undoubtedly been India’s strongest suit so far, with eight weightlifters claiming medals in the tournament so far. The star of the show has been the legendary Mirabai Chanu, who won her third consecutive CWG gold by claiming the women’s 48 kg title.

Several newcomers have bagged their maiden Commonwealth Games medals at the Glasgow 2026 Games, while a few records have also been broken. Sarvesh Kushare registered the country’s best-ever finish in men’s high jump by securing bronze in the event on July 27.

Meanwhile, Sharmila Dhankar etched her name in Indian sporting history by becoming the country’s first gold medallist in the CWG para athletics. The 40-year-old won gold in the women’s shot put F57 event, while Shilpa Shyla claimed bronze in the same event.

Jhandu Kumar (bronze in men’s heavyweight para powerlifting)

Jhandu Kumar opened India’s medal tally by clinching bronze in the men’s heavyweight para powerlifting event. He registered successful lifts of 181 kg and 190 kg to finish with 130.9 points. Having faced a lot of hardships in life, including selling vegetables on the street and driving an e-rickshaw during the COVID-19 pandemic, Jhandu’s maiden Commonwealth Games medal marked a brilliant start for India.

Mirabai Chanu (gold in women’s 48 kg weightlifting)

Mirabai Chanu bagged gold in the women’s 48 kg event, breaking the Commonwealth Games record in both snatch and clean and jerk. She produced a best lift of 85 kg in snatch and 105 kg in clean and jerk. She finished in first place with a total lift of 190 kg, marking her fourth consecutive medal in the tournament.

Rishikanta Singh (silver in men’s 60 kg weightlifting)

Rishikanta Singh secured his maiden CWG medal with a silver in the men’s 60 kg weightlifting event. He registered a successful lift of 121 kg in snatch, which is a new Commonwealth Games record. He managed a clean and jerk lift of 143 kg, finishing with a total lift of 264 kg. The gold went to Malaysia’s Aniq Kasdan, who managed 273 kg.

Raja Muthupandi (silver in men’s 65 kg weightlifting)

Raja Muthupandi continued India’s winning wave on Day 4 of the Commonwealth Games 2026, clinching silver in the men’s 65 kg weightlifting event. He produced a successful lift of 126 kg in snatch and 160 kg in clean and jerk, finishing second with a combined lift of 286 kg. Malaysia’s Aznil Bidin won gold with a total lift of 299 kg.

Sharmila Dhankar (gold in women’s shot put F57)

Sharmila Dhankar’s name will go down in history as India’s first para-athletics gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games, winning the women’s shot put F57 title. In fact, this marked the country’s first CWG para-athletics medal in two decades, since Ranjith Kumar Jayaseelan’s bronze in the men’s seated discus throw in 2006.

Sarvesh Kushare (silver in men’s high jump)

Sarvesh Kushare secured silver in the men’s high jump, marking the country’s best-ever finish in the event at the Commonwealth Games. He cleared 2.25m, the same as the gold medallist, Jamaica’s Romaine Beckford. However, the Indian athlete had to settle for second place due to the countback rule. Kushare was admirably assisted in his campaign by his injured teammate, Tejaswin Shankar, who gave him technical advice from the sidelines.

Valluri Ajaya Babu (silver in men’s 79 kg weightlifting)

Valluri Ajaya Babu became the third Indian weightlifter to win a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games 2026, clinching it in the men’s 79 kg event. The 21-year-old lifter from Andhra Pradesh secured a 149 kg lift in snatch, which was a new CWG record. He lifted 181 kg in clean and jerk to finish with a total lift of 330 kg, missing out on gold by one kg to Malaysia’s Erry Hidayat Muhammad.

Gyaneshwari Yadav (silver in women’s 53 kg weightlifting)

Gyaneshwari Yadav clinched a silver in the women’s 53 kg weightlifting event in her Commonwealth Games debut in Glasgow. She produced a best snatch lift of 88 kg and a clean and jerk lift of 111 kg, finishing with a total lift of 199 kg. Despite this brilliant performance, she had to settle for second place behind Nigeria’s Onome Omolola Didih, who managed a total lift of 206 kg.

Bindyarani Devi (bronze in women’s 58 kg weightlifting)

Bindyarani Devi won her second consecutive Commonwealth Games medal, claiming bronze in the women’s 58 kg weightlifting event. The Birmingham 2022 silver medallist produced an 87 kg lift in snatch and 112 kg in clean and jerk. She finished second with a total lift of 199 kg. The gold went to Nigeria’s Rafiatu Lawal, who managed a total lift of 215 kg.

Shilpa Shyla (bronze in women’s shot put F57)

Shilpa Shyla won bronze in the women’s shot put F57, securing India’s first-ever double podium finish in Commonwealth Games para athletics. Shyla had initially finished fourth with a best effort of 7.26m. Nigeria’s Eucharia Iyiazi had finished third with her only valid effort of 8.19m, but the throw was later ruled invalid after a review. As a result, Shyla bagged her maiden CWG medal alongside Dhankar.

Gulveer Singh (silver in men’s 10,000m)

Gulveer Singh became the country’s first-ever Indian Commonwealth Games medallist in the men’s 10,000m event, before a sudden burst of speed in the final lap helped him claim silver on Tuesday. The Indian runner was consistently part of the top pack in the 25 laps, clocking 27:49.78 seconds. The gold medal went to Australia’s Ky Robinson, while the bronze went to Isle of Man’s David Mullarkey.

Harjinder Kaur (silver in women’s 69 kg weightlifting)

Harjinder Kaur became India’s sixth weightlifting medallist in the Commonwealth Games 2026, claiming silver in the women’s 69 kg. She registered a best lift of 01 kg in snatch and 126 kg in clean and jerk, finishing with a total lift of 227 kg, marking her career-best result. The gold went to Canada’s Charlotte Simoneau (240 kg).

Dilip Gavit (gold in men’s 100m T47)

Following Dhankar’s win earlier in the competition, Dilip Gavit became India’s second para-athletics gold medallist at the Commonwealth Games. The 23-year-old, a former Asian Para Games gold medallist, finished first in the men’s 100m T47 event with a Games record and season-best time of 10.71 seconds.

Mohammed Basit Morssinganakath (silver in men’s 100m T47)

India secured both the top two spots in the men’s 100m T47 event on Day 6 of the Commonwealth Games 2026. Gavit shared his spot on the podium with Mohammed Basit Morssinganakath, who clinched silver with a season-best time of 10.83 seconds. This also secured India’s second double podium finish at the Glasgow Games.

Murali Sreeshankar (silver in men’s long jump)

Murali Sreeshankar became the first Indian athlete to win back-to-back long jump medals in the Commonwealth Games. Having clinched silver in the Birmingham 2022 Games, Sreeshankar added another second-place finish to his tally by clearing 8.09m at the Glasgow Games. The gold went to Jamaica’s Tajay Gayle (8.15m).

Lovepreet Singh (silver in men’s 110+ kg weightlifting)

Lovepreet Singh clinched his second successive Commonwealth Games gold medal, adding a silver in the men’s 110+ kg weightlifting event after a bronze in the Birmingham 2022 Games. He managed a snatch lift of 176 kg and a clean-and-jerk lift of 212 kg, finishing with a total lift of 388 kg. However, the Indian lifter missed out on gold by just one kg, with the top prize being claimed by New Zealand’s David Liti.

Seema Kaliramna (bronze in women’s discus throw)

Seema Kaliramna marked the first podium finish of her international career with a bronze in the women’s discus throw event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Day 7. The 27-year-old, who is also a PhD scholar, finished third with a best throw of 58.66m. The gold was claimed by Jamaica’s Samantha Hall (61.66m).

Asmita Dey (gold in women’s 48 kg judo)

Asmita Dey etched her name in Commonwealth Games history by becoming the first Indian gold medallist judoka in the tournament. The 23-year-old Tripura native clinched gold in the women’s 48 kg event, beating Canada’s Heidi Quach 2-1 in a tight final bout on Day 8. Although the Indian judoka started the match on the back foot, conceding a yuko and receiving a penalty, she levelled the scores brilliantly before earning a yuko in sudden-time overtime.

Harsh Singh (gold in men’s 60 kg judo)

Harsh Singh capped his Commonwealth Games debut with a historic gold medal in the men’s 60 kg final on Friday, becoming the first Indian male judoka to achieve this feat in the tournament. The 23-year-old claimed an emphatic win over Australia’s Joshua Katz, who was the heavy favourite to clinch the top prize.

Neeraj Chopra (silver in men’s javelin throw)

India’s golden boy, Neeraj Chopra, had to settle for silver in the Commonwealth Games 2026 men’s javelin throw final on Friday, finishing second with a best throw of 85.83m. The two-time Olympic medallist began the event with an 80.97m throw, improving it to a season-best 85.83m with his second effort. However, Neeraj could only manage 81.29m and 80.73m with his next two throws, while his final two efforts were ineligible. The gold went to Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage (89.97m).

Yamini Mourya (silver in women’s 57 kg judo)

Yamini Mourya became the third judo medallist for India at the Commonwealth Games 2026, clinching silver in the women’s 57 kg event. The Indian judoka faced England’s Acelya Toprak in the final on Day 9. The contest was a closely fought one, going into Golden Score at 0-0. However, Mourya earned her third Shido, which was turned into a red card, and got disqualified.

Tejaswin Shankar (bronze in men’s decathlon)

Tejaswin Shankar achieved the improbable by overcoming a serious knee injury that he suffered during the long jump event and clinching bronze in the men’s decathlon event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The 27-year-old was second in the standings for most of the event, but a brilliant comeback by Grenada’s Lindon Victor saw him finish first, winning gold. Canada’s Damian Warner clinched silver, while Shankar had to settle for a bronze medal.

Yash Vir Singh (bronze in men’s javelin throw)

Yash Vir Singh clinched bronze in the men’s javelin throw with a personal-best effort of 85.41m, ensuring India’s first-ever double podium finish in the Commonwealth Games. After an ineligible first throw, the 24-year-old threw 78.55m and 81.33m in his next two attempts. Another foul throw and a 76.95m saw him slip down the rankings. However, the Indian athlete then registered a brilliant 85.41m effort with his final throw, finishing third.

Soham Rana (gold in men’s shot put F57)

Soham Rana secured India’s first Commonwealth Games gold in the men’s shot put F57 event, finishing first with a best throw of 13.40m and edging fellow Indian Shubham Juyal for first place. A havildar in the Indian Army, Rana had lost his leg in a landmine blast. Since then, he shifted from boxing to para athletics and added a maiden CWG medal to his tally.

Shubham Juyal (silver in men’s shot put F57)

Shubham Juyal clinched silver in the men’s shot put F57 at the Commonwealth Games 2026, ensuring a first-ever double podium finish for India in the event. The Roorkee native finished second with a season-best effort of 13.28m, finishing behind his compatriot Rana. Having lost his leg to a motorcycle accident, Juyal’s perseverance was vindicated by his medal on Day 9.

Praveen Chithravel (silver in men’s triple jump)

Praveen Chithravel narrowly missed out on gold in the men’s triple jump event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, settling for silver with a best effort of 16.58m. Having missed out on a podium finish at the Birmingham 2022 Games by a narrow margin, Chithravel, an Asian Games bronze medallist, added a maiden CWG medal to his tally.

Selva Prabhu Thirumaran (bronze in men’s triple jump)

Appearing in his first international tournament, Selva Prabhu Thirumaran capped his Commonwealth Games 2026 journey with a bronze in the men’s triple jump event. The 21-year-old athlete overcame food poisoning and diarrhoea to achieve a personal-best effort of 16.25m, finishing in third place.

Preeti Pawar (gold in women’s 54 kg boxing)

Indian boxer Preeti Pawar clinched her maiden CWG medal with a gold in the women’s 54 kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Day 9. The Hangzhou Asian Games bronze medallist secured a 5-0 unanimous decision victory against Canada’s Scarlett Delgado.

Jasmine Lamboria (gold in women’s 57 kg boxing)

Jasmine Lamboria was the second Indian boxer to clinch a medal on Day 9, winning gold in the women’s 57 kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. She beat the defending champion, Northern Ireland’s Michaela Walsh, by a 5-0 unanimous decision. This marked the second consecutive CWG medal for the 24-year-old, having won bronze at the Birmingham 2022 Games.

Jadumani Singh (silver in men’s 55 kg boxing)

Jadumani Singh added to India’s medal tally with a silver in the men’s 55 kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, despite a loss to Australia’s Jai Dixon in the final on Day 9. The Manipuri boxer began the bout on the front foot, but Dixon soon took control, ultimately winning by a 5-0 unanimous decision.

Unnati Sharma (bronze in women’s 63 kg judo)

India’s judo medal tally went to four after Unnati Sharma clinched bronze in the women’s 63 kg event at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The former National Games champion defeated South Africa’s Sky Knoester by Ippon in one minute and seven seconds in the bronze medal match on Day 9.

Sakshi Choudhary (gold in women’s 51 kg boxing)

Sakshi Choudhary clinched gold in the women’s 51 kg boxing event with a dominant 5-0 unanimous decision victory over England’s Ruby White in the final on Day 9 of the Commonwealth Games 2026. The 25-year-old Indian pugilist was unstoppable in the final bout, with White having no answer for her aggressive approach.

Priya Ghanghas (gold in women’s 60 kg boxing)

Priya Ghanghas overcame Canada’s Marie Al-Ahmadieh in a thrilling women’s 60 kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2026 to clinch her maiden CWG gold medal. Priya, ranked No. 4 in the world, faced a tough fight from her Canadian opponent, eventually grinding out a 4-1 split decision victory.

Arundhati Choudhary (gold in women’s 70 kg boxing)

Arundhati Choudhary clinched gold in the women’s 70 kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026 on Day 9, beating England’s Chantelle Reid by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the final. The 2025 World Boxing gold medallist overcame a 102-degree fever before the bout, eventually dominating her opponent throughout the contest.

Lovlina Borgohain (silver in women’s 75 kg boxing)

Lovlina Borgohain, India’s biggest gold contender in boxing at the Commonwealth Games 2026, had to settle for silver in the women’s 75 kg event, losing to Australia’s Emma-Sue Greentree by a 4-1 split decision. The Australian dominated the opening round, but Lovlina mounted a comeback in the second round. However, the Indian could not maintain that form in the third round, losing the bout.

Sachin Siwach (gold in men’s 60 kg boxing)

Sachin Siwach mounted an incredible comeback to seal a 3-2 split decision victory over Namibia’s Tryagain Morning Ndevelo, clinching gold in the men’s 60 kg final at the Commonwealth Games 2026. The Namibian boxer edged the opening round with a late punch, but Sachin fought back in the second round, despite a point deduction. In the final round, the Indian pugilist sealed a narrow victory.

Ankush Panghal (gold in men’s 80 kg boxing)

Ankush Panghal clinched gold in the men’s 80 kg boxing event, beating England’s Dimeji Shitu by a 4-1 split decision. Ankush lost the opening round 5-0, but then made an incredible comeback, using his ring awareness and counterattacks to dominate his opponent, winning his first Commonwealth Games medal.

Narender Berwal (silver in men’s 90+ kg boxing)

Narender Berwal won silver in the men’s 90+ kg boxing event at the Commonwealth Games 2026, despite losing to England’s Damar Thomas by a 5-0 unanimous decision in the final on Saturday. Thomas dominated the bout from the starting bell, never allowing the Indian pugilist to find his footing, eventually claiming a sweeping victory to clinch gold.

Gulveer Singh (bronze in men’s 5000m)

Gulveer Singh made history on Saturday with a bronze in the men’s 5000m event, becoming the first Indian athlete to win a Commonwealth Games medal in that discipline. The 28-year-old national record holder clocked 13 minutes and 24.95 seconds, finishing third. This marked his second medal at the Glasgow Games, having earlier won silver in the men’s 10,000m event.
